Friendship. So many colours, so many hues and so many intricacies in the warp and weft in the fabric of friendship.
Much like a sari, actually. Beautifully simple and yet so amazingly complex.

Ipshita and I first met at university – I was 6 years older than the rest of the class but, we ‘recognised’ each other almost instantly. The 14 years since then have had us playing the role of classmates, colleagues, friends and now, even client and vendor.

We have seen each other through the usual roller-coaster ride that is life… the latest being the changes that come with saying good bye to a bad marriage. This photograph is special because this sari was gifted to me three years back by a friend who has chosen not to be part of my life any more. It is the love and support of friends like Ipshita that has made me strong enough to remember the past only with love, choose to keep what was special and let go of the rest.

The shared sari love helps! This photograph was taken on the Bengali New Year, at an office celebration where all our previous roles converged. But what shines brightest is our friendship.

I am wearing a simple south cotton sari and she is wearing a printed Mangalgiri.
