While there are a lot of recent pics with relatively newer sarees of Mum’s, I had wanted to pull out old photos for the memories and the stories associated with those pics, since Mom recently celebrated her 70th birthday. With the 100 saree pact coinciding quite nicely, the pleasure to share old pics of Mom in her beautiful sarees has doubled!

This pic was taken in Bombay where I spent the best childhood years of my life. It was the most carefree, happy time filled with lots of fun, friends and family. Don’t remember what the joke was here, but the pic was clicked by Dad’s prized possession then – a tripod that he picked up from his travels abroad on work, and his Yashica camera – still have both!!

In the background is Putsy, a tiny lilac coloured velvet teddy bear gifted by my Maasi, the simply gorgeous Jayanthi Bhaskar, who left us unexpectedly two years ago, whom we miss very much. She got him for me from Germany where she lived then.

Mom had a very colourful and fashionable wardrobe filled with gorgeous chiffon, silk, georgette sarees, besides wraparound skirts, maxis and dresses in the fashionably cool and chic 70s!

This saree was her favourite, a breezy, light as a feather yellow chiffon with white and red stripes that I remember very well. My amazing father, the one and only Navin Pai, bought this for Mom on one of his work trips to Jaipur. It is a leheriya chiffon. Dad always had great taste!! 🙂

Doesn’t Mom look simply stunning?
