My mother was born after many boys into a family which yearned for girls. When she attained puberty, this Kancheevaram sari , expensive for those times, was gifted to her. The border is a Sputnik one( the year Laika went to space) and the large-motif pallu is by a weaver called Muthu and is termed Muthukumar thallapu. The sari is over 50 years old and in a colour similar to MS blue (after the legendary singer.)

I love the sari but for its one side border. Today, a saree expert at the meet mentioned that it is made so, so that your jewellery shows better!!

Attended ( with Debjani Aich ) a generously hosted saree pact meet by Anju Maudgal Kadam and Ally Matthan, followed by a lunch with friends-Malathi Srinivasan and Nagarjun Kandukuru.

I enjoyed listening, interacting and learning about sarees.

To sarees, stories and friendship!

An added bonus was meeting Roopa Pai and Seema Pisharody atKitschdii.
