Indian lotus (scientific name, Nelumbo nucifera) or sacred lotus, or simply lotus, is one of two species of aquatic plant in the family Nelumbonaceae.
Over the years this flower got associated with purity and beauty in the religions of Buddhism and Hinduism respectively; even we find mentions of lotus in ancient Egyptians history, where the flower is linked with rebirth and the Sun.( the reason being-in reality, the Lotus slowly emerges from a pond over a three day period and then blooms in the morning until mid-afternoon. As if a re-birth)

In Buddhism the lotus is known to be associated with purity, spiritual awakening and faithfulness. The flower is considered pure as it is able to emerge from murky waters in the morning and be perfectly clean.
Hinduism strongly echoes the associations of the lotus flower through beauty, fertility, prosperity, spirituality, and eternity.

76/100 #100sareepact is about a new which I draped during Kali Puja eve at home.
A unique combination of soft silk, hand loom ; the off- white saree depicts black lotus visuals throughout the body while the border is in pink, perfect lotus colour…
My designer blouse was an uncanny match where it showcases lotus designs through stitches in the body.
Lotus flower is an essential part of Durga Puja/Kaali Puja/Laxmi Puja; thus while I draped this piece I thought of coming out with an interesting saree story connecting Lotus and Religion. The evening was fun, family and saree moments. With silver/ranee coloured jewellery and a beautiful dark pink lips the Lotus saree look was complete !

Thought of adding a bit of another angle to this story; human traits are also associated with how the open flower and the unopened Lotus bud forms. The unopened bud is representative of a folded soul that has the ability to unfold and open itself up to the divine truth…..

Phew, #100sareepact surfaced my philosophical connect with Lotus, within me too!
