58/100. This is the first year since I have started working that I will not get my grandmother a saree for Pujo. I will be getting her a nightgown, instead. Because, a sudden sickness three months ago, has her almost bed-ridden… And unable to manage a saree…
I will not write about Dimmai today. Because, I will try and drape her in a saree one day, take a photograph for the pact, and then write about her.
This day, I wore to office this saree I had gifted her five Pujos back. It’s a Kerala kasavu my aunt got from Bangalore and which I then got printed at Kanishka, my one-and-only and a design house without parallel when it comes to block prints. This print is in shades of blue ranging from turquoise to Prussian. An aside – when borders are so wide – half of the saree in width – it’s called a ‘skirt’ border in Kolkata.
The saree served me well – keeping me cool through the office day – and reminding me that though it was a nightie I had to buy for her, it would have to be fine cotton, white and with the most elegant of motifs. Saree or nightie – with my Dimmai, these are constants. ?
