# 17 This saree is straight from Sambhalpur. The specialty of the Sambalpuri Saree is the yarn tie and die also called Ikkat or Bandha. Our first woman Prime Minister and our first woman President made these sarees very popular.

I went there 7years back with Milind to attend some event. When I went there, I found all sorts of women be it rich or poor wearing Sambalpuri Saree/ suits. And man wearing shirts/kurtas or even using a towel or handkerchief made up of Sambalpuri fabric. There were bedsheets and curtains too in this beautiful material.

Our host gifted me this splendid saree with few other presents. Honestly, I don’t know fine details about these sarees. When I opened it, I just loved it. Red, black and white is the best combination according to me. It make me happy. 😀

I wanted to visit Hirakud dam which is only 15kms from Sambhalpur, but due to time constraint couldn’t do it. We are grown up reading about it in our school text book of geography that this is the longest dam in India. Maybe next time when I visit Lord Jagannath and Kornark temple, I will try and make a visit again to Sambhalpur for Hirakud Dam and ofcourse for lots of Sambhalpuri sarees.
