‪while i am unable to post a relevant picture at the moment, my most amazing saree story is not of one, but of 20 beautiful pieces…..
When i got married, my father-in-law handed me a ‘potla’ of sarees which belonged to my husband’s mother. ….last worn and folded by her very hands almost a decade before my wedding. …And a huge, huge void suddenly got brimming with love…. a person i longed to have met, suddenly was warmly softly touching me through her patolas and bandhnies…… i felt connected, blessed and standing in her presence in that moment. Stunned at how a few meters of fabric can be such a meaningful link between 2 women of a family.
As i wore each saree over the following months, Alok shared his memories of seeing mom in it at events or around the house….. and the sarees came alive!
Today, while i preserve some, a few have turned into lehngas for my daughter….so she can feel the touch of her dadi too…
Thank you Anju Maudgal Kadam, for making it possible for me to revisit my feelings and share.
