One of my most prized possessions, more for the sentiment behind it than the Chanderi silk, is this wedding gift from my brother. At the time that I married, he was working-studying-paying off a student loan in the US and spending most of his hard earned money on airfare to come home and be with dad in his battle against cancer. The fact that he took me out shopping despite of all that was extra special.
We both liked this sari at first sight and were out of the store in less than 10 minutes. But back home, mom wasn’t as ecstatic with her children’s choice of this un-bridal colour, and was even more appalled when I decided to wear this for a dinner hosted for the in-laws the evening before the wedding. Luckily for me, my in-laws appreciate subtlety 🙂
