It was love at first sight when I went to CKP for one of the numerous events. A jute Tussar on display with a very unique Pallu and with all the bright colours I like. The saree has several knots, faults, rough patch but drapes like a dream and is hand woven and unique, just like the unique tree that Rukmini wanted from Indira’s abode. Krishna is supposed to have brought it down, especially to woo the lady who won his heart.
The parijatha or pavazha malli in full bloom this year, with its unique colour combination and fragrance is one of my favorite trees. An interesting way of picking the flowers is to shake the tree and you will have a fragrant shower and then you pick the flowers off the ground using the stem. They are delicate and dry up pretty fast during the day. My picture of the flowers, on one of my whatsapp group, triggered a very interesting conversation. I remember stringing them using a needle and thread and keeping them ready for my grandmother ‘s pooja ritual.
