30/100. Yay! I reach my Thirties! My entry into the Thirties Club, deserved something a little different. I had always loved it when I saw women wearing their sarees with tops, kurtas or shirts – anything but the regular blouse. But I had never mustered the courage to do the same myself. I told myself that the milieu was not right, maybe next time I had a cocktail invitation, so on and so forth.

But yesterday, when my young friend and colleague came to office in a lovely maroon saree (story coming soon) teamed with a black top, I finally decided it was time to experiment.

It helped that I really wanted to wear this 15-year old block-printed chiffon from Kanishka but did not have a remotely matching blouse. The turquoise tee with an embellished neckline – bought nine years ago from Wills Lifestyle – almost jumped out of my closet at me begging to be worn with the saree. And so, that’s that.

The seedha palla style looked more suited to the saree-tee pair, but for office, I had to wear it the regular way. I have never really worn a chiffon to work before – but strangely enough, the tee actually made it more appropriate for office. The transparency of the material was just not a concern.

So there we have it. As easily as that, I it’s not just which saree to wear next, but what to wear with it as well. It seems my tops, tees, shirts add kurtas are soon going to be on double duty!
