Yet another Wednesday and a new saree is released…. Red silk with hand painted batik. Couldn’t help copying Ramya Venkatachalam Kashalkar pose for displaying the Thalappu… I teamed it with a multicolor silver set from Narayana pearls , Chennai.
So did you know that in ancient India, a needle piercing through cloth was considered impure and that is why we keep new unstitched clothes in all our auspicious pooja? These days it is ‘proper’ for people gifting the bride, to have the blouses pre-stitched, sarees all done and ready to be worn. Kurta all stitched and ready. Another culture losing out to modernization or ignorance or plain defiance…..
