#100sareepact (4/100)

Vatsala all ready to step out in a deep mauve saree with embossed stripes and a cream border with colourful embroidered flowers on the border and palla.

It’s been in her closet for over a year and a half now. We just cut the blouse piece off it! Calling this the ‘Mystery Saree’ because we have no story of its origin, just that it belonged to mom’s sis Jayanthi who is unfortunately no longer here to tell us the story behind it. Was it gifted to her or did she buy it, we will never know now 🙁 Aunt Jayanthi was quite the mystery herself! Miss her dearly.

It is quite a unique saree in that the embroidered borders and palla look grand and yet it is extremely understated in its elegance. Mom has never worn it until today. Even earlier when I had gently coaxed her to, she would say she did not have a matching blouse, little realising there was one in there!!

Today she feels happy and good to be wearing it and it looks lovely on her. Aunt Jayanthi was a stunner and looks like this was brand new and she had probably never worn it herself either. Mysterious are the ways of the Universe indeed.

This saree pact theme is bringing out not just sarees from closets, but also reminiscing of old memories, some beautiful, some sad, some bitter sweet, and hopefully creating new, positive energies.
