Day 24. I had initially planned to wear a cotton today but then the earth shook (literally) and the weather changed dramatically. I had long been waiting to wear a chiffon (enticed by the posts of many fellow pacters) and today seemed perfect. I have very few chiffons/georgettes/crepes. This one is very very special. It belonged to my Dimma (mother’s mother). She usually wore whites, greys, beige or very light colours. This is one of the few coloured saris I saw her wear, mostly when she went abroad. I lost her when I was still in college and hence a very occasional sari wearer but I did get two of her saris. This sari is special for another reason too. I wore it one of the first times I went out with my (then to-be) husband Achintyarup Ray. We went to see a play at Academy which turned out to be more of a jatra though!
And now to the accessories… The earrings and the chain with locket are from Mexico…gifts from Achintya when he went there on work a couple of years ago. Wherever he goes, he brings back trinkets or souvenirs for me and everyone at home, which I treasure. The bangle is a wooden one, a Channapatna speciality, I picked up on our holiday down south last November.
