Nine yards wonder!
A saree speaks for itself! To some extent it does.
#100sareepact – I fell hook, line and sinker though I honestly do not want to bombard your timeline with my 100 sarees! This was my first nine yard kancheevaram saree which has the traditional colors of golden yellow with a red and green zari border. Challenge was to drape this saree at 5 AM on our house warming day. Called several parlors to find out if anyone could help me drape but obviously none agreed because of the timings! The previous day, mom took me to a priest and introduced his wife who readily taught how to drape without using any safety pins…. but that morning, I had to use 9 pins to secure this nine yards firmly! It was indeed beautiful and memorable. I feel nostalgic whenever I see this traditional 9 yards! 1/100.
Hello Asha,
Nice post and you are looking very nice in the picture. I came across this post when searching for 9 yard saree information. Can you answer a few questions please? You say this is a nine yard saree and you learnt wearing it from a priest’s wife that your mother introduced. Are you a madhwa and is the the madhwa type of wearing saree with a kacche? I was looking to learn that, so very nice to see someone wearing in traditional way with kacche. If you can reply to my email id, I would like to ask a few details and see if I can learn how to wear. I can share what I tried and find out how you do it. It will be great if you can answer.
Best wishes.
