Happy Vishu! How can one possibly not wear a Kasavu saree today? I’d called in sick last afternoon because it felt like my neck would fall off any minute. The literal pain in the neck persists and it is rather distressing. I’d an appointment with a Sports Doc for my bad running knees on May 6th. Thankfully, this has gotten advanced to this morning. Taking an Uber to avoid the mad drive in chaotic traffic.
So this is Tamil Nadu (temple jewellery necklace) meets Kearala (Kasavu saree) meets Maharashtra (Paithani blouse and nath) smile emoticon (meets the west (shorts) tongue emoticon
The long gold necklace belonged to my paternal grandmother and has been passed down to me. The gold jhumkas and gold bangles are a staple with Kerala sarees. Chose this purple/pink blouse to go with the nath and temple jewellery.
Today brings back memories of the times when my parents and I would visit Amma’s Maami (the oldest relative in Blr) to seek their blessings. Vishu, the harvest festival, is also the time, when older folks bless the younger people in the family by giving them money – called Vishu Ketam. Look forward to a Sadya with Amma, to see her blessings and get my Vishu Ketam.
Happy Vishu, Bihu, Baisakhi and Puthandu Vaazhugal!
