One Day in Delhi
That began with a brisk walk to the nearest red light in the freezing morning air as the Republic Day Security arrangements prevented my taxi from coming to the doorstep at the IIC but well worth it for what followed was a delicious breakfast of Pongal and Chutney at Chidamabaram’s in Khanna Market . This is Delhi’s answer to Mani’s of Matunga in Bombay and a fitting reply too. Packed some of their classic mini and masala vadais and headed to Yamuna Paar to continue breakfast shenanigans with Mother and brother ( who by the way dishes up the nearest Pongal so the repeat breaking of fast was mandatory !
All too soon then it was time to head to school for the annual Alumni extravaganza that MIS holds on every 26th of January , one of the reasons I was here besides wishing brother on his 60th a couple of days away .
The winter sunshine , the camaraderie and the love and friendships that go back 47 years …sweeter and warmer than the Gaajar Halwa and Gulab Jamun we feasted upon .
Then Chai break with the NRI in Delhi and the NRI from Toronto who so kindly and with so much attention styled the Saree Pact photos finding the perfect background and taking as many pictures it took for me to be satisfied . Salute to Ravi and Anita smile emoticon
Phew the day continued and the Saree withstood it all !
An old Tussar favourite in trademark raw silk shades and navy blue border with dull gold thread work in the border and Pallu . A perfect all day till late in the night wear which I teamed with my oat colored sweater and a navy blue shawl which was never needed ; the day being so fine and mild .
So visiting niece Parvati , chai and gupshup and earring inventory happened and then dinner with brother at a dear friend’s home where oh how we tried to make the Birthday Boy pose for a photograph !!!
So that’s a typical day in Delhi …my home city that had my soul in its grip . Bas, is baar Lodhi Gardens reh gaya
