During our North Karnataka Trip, I could not resist taking pictures of these women clad in these lovely Ilkals, that are woven in North Karnataka.
Ilkal was an ancient weaving centre where the weaving seems to have started in the 8th century AD.The weaver will gait only 6 yards, 8 yards, 9 yards warp due to TOPE TENI technique.
In this “TOPE TENI SERAGU” Normally 3 solid portions would be in red colour, and in between 2 portions in white colour.Which basically looks like a double side pallu.
I am wearing a Raama Blue Ilkal that I bought from the weaver .It is paper light and silky.
