18/100 @ #100Sareepact!
Yes, I’m back, but with a story from sometime back.
Suhaani…. She came with me from my last Kolkata trip, on a Sunday in March, when all shops were closed! Frenetically hunting, driver Proshanto- da said “Oy, khulechhe didi!” , and we stopped in front of the teensiest saree shop in Shyambazar imaginable. I grabbed about seven sarees from there , for friends, daughters, mother and yours truly, and Suhaani was a hit at the neighbour’s daughter’s wedding, along with her companion piece my daughter wore! Price must be ₹750. (After a hefty bargain, bouni , this-that, I always buy from here talk..)

Don’t ask me the type… Looks like very fine Kota, has this faux Zari and self- embossed work in leaves, my favourite, you call it organza? Brasso? Jaamdaani? Ok so be it……

The blouse? Suhaani politely allows me the choice of any blouse, so…. Another story: it’s made from the piece I’d bought my daughter, out of a Kauvery brocade Mysore crepe silk, rich like Croesus, and pretty steep priced. She wears a long sleeved golden blouse with it. ( it’s a lovely ensemble, for another time).

And the set is what I’ll wear sometime, hahn? It’s reversible, thewa on one side, kundan on the other as I’ve tried to show. A gift of course. I’m sure you’ve liked Suhaani, nai?
