It was Monday morning blues and I was getting ready for the office with my 75/100 piece!
I only had one angle to the story; the first saree gift from my beloved, a very precious possession of my entire life!

In due course, while draping these neatly drawn dolls from the saree design, my creative mind challenged my story ideation.
The saree has clay coloured base, where dolls are painted with fabric paints throughout the body.
The anchal has the most of those beautiful faces. This clay colour and the dolls immediately connected me with this famous art of Bengal. The carving of both wooden and clay dolls are unique features of the art and culture of this state.

West Bengal is gifted with the skills of multi crafts. Wood carving is one such interesting art. Carving of human figures, animals like elephant etc, mithun head, horn bill are the main and the famous carvings. Natungram, of Bardhaman district is able to form 146 plus Artisans & 12 SHGs supporting the strong work force.
On the other hand, Krishnanagar, of Nadia district is considered the most authentic and creative zone for clay modelling.
Lathe-turned and lacquered toys in bright colours and at affordable prices are popular all over the state. Carved wooden toys, dolls and elephants exhibiting the skills of the artisan are also made.

This simple cotton saree was hanging as a display in one of those south Kolkata saree shops; we were walking together. It caught our attention, I loved it. Not a very expensive piece, but in those days it was quite pricy. But in real life over the years it became, priceless!!

While draping these dolls I re-winded my sweet memories of past. These are now only recollections of my past life….75/100 series even took me to my school days when in our Fine Art classes we had done wood cut printing…
To give 75/100 #100sareepact the finest look, I favoured wearing a wooden neck-piece too!

Let’s end today’s wooden story here, before I take you back to more of my nagging crazy tales… 🙂 🙂
