Bhaier kapale dilam phonta,
Jomer Duare porlo kanta,
Jamuna Dae Jomke phonta,
Ami di amar bhaike phonta,
Bhai jeno hoy lohar vata…….

A short rhyme which I recite since I am in my senses while performing this wonderful ritual of Bhai (meaning brother)Phota!! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhau-beej
It is essentially a Bengali ritual, when the sister prays for her brother’s success and well-being. The event is ceremoniously performed by the sister who religiously fasts the entire morning until she applies a ‘phonta’ (the mark) of sandal wood paste on her brother’s forehead.

This year, my Bhai Phota drape was a gift from my Brother. Since he is aware about my preference, mixed silk saree in #ShadesofBlue is my 61/100 #100sareepact piece.
In our family we have a ritual of celebrating this event on Pratipad, during the first evening just after the Omabashya of Kaali Puja is over.
It has never been a hard & fast rule of fasting, since we all fast during Kaali Puja; my Bhai Phota is a passionate ritual where we both have our bit of food and ultimate enjoyment 🙂
In fact during childhood I guess I wanted a Bon (i.e sister) Phota back 😉

This beautiful blue mixed silk, has a traditional golden matte thread work, while the middle part has a knit of Gujrati stitch.
The most important feature of my 61/100 saree is the unseen LOVE of my brother that runs through each thread and wraps me with ultimate comfort in my highs n lows of life.

Check out our old photos and see how we both have evolved…
Thanks Dadabhai, for being there, as a support.
The story header can have a dash of Russian connect where our names may reflect as Pavlushka Masha Bond……

I truly believe he is one of my Horcruxes of life (like Harry Potter).
This is not the first time we are being in touch like this but over several lives; am sure it is in our destiny if we are reborn we will again be the soul mates in our unique version of -Brother-Sister …

Take Care, Dadabhai. Love You, Always…..
