I found this gorgeous Kochampalli Ikkat cotton in pink , blank and white just by pure chance . We were hunting for the Kalamkaris and were guided to a Madhu Saree Palace which seemed to be right on the shoulder of the busy , busy road in Banjara Hills . Vicky and I had got off the auto rickshaw and were picking our way carefully on the almost non existent sidewalk and Bingo ! We were inside the said Madhu Palace . Sarees were heaped in multicolored piles all over the floor looking like some mountain ranges straight out of a National Geographic scenario.
The sales lady in a desultory fashion made some pretence of showing me what Kalamkaris she had or what she thought were Kalamkaris.
My eyes fell on a riot of pink and black and I leaned down to tug at it. And Lo and Behold , this was the reward .
Was at the Can India Conclave , the Annual Conference of Cancer NGOs and Support Groups today and presenting as a panel member on a couple of interesting sessions. It was very encouraging to see so many of the oncologists we work with attend these sessions . These are some of the really fantastic doctors I have come to know over the last couple of decades and more ; doctors who are the best in the area of cancer care …national and international . Doctors who are adored by their patients and respected by their peers . Doctors who give of their time and energies and support the work we do . Without their collaboration there is not much we can do.
This Saree post is dedicated to the wonderful men and women who give the best care to the patients we support . Some of them here in these pictures with me happily and kindly saying , oh ? Your Saree Pact ? Of course ! Some of them not in these photographs but very much part of the big picture . The best oncologists , not just nationally but on the international stage of cancer care and management .
Thank you for all you do and for humoring me and my pet project these days , the #100sareepact . For posing with me ! You are the best in the world .
