#100sareepact Day44
An ivory peach georgette saree with chikan embroidery, for Sunday lunch with old, old friends. Old as in from 35 years back, but not elderly. Don’t you dare snigger, you will not be be forgiven for classifying me in the same category!
This saree is a gift from a dear aunt, my Taiji, who passed away last month. She had no daughters and adored me as her very own. Married at the age of 16, she had a great yearning to study, which she did post marriage. She did her post graduation and went on to teach and eventually start and run successfully a school of her own. Every time she visited me or met my mother, she would send over a saree for me! She and my mother, who is also pictured here, were the greatest of friends. The two sisters in law travelled around the country on their own, post age 75, enjoying some great girls’ time together. It was great seeing them, heads together gossiping away or giggling like school girls. Taiji fell ill almost exactly two years ago, when she had to cancel her trip from Lucknow to my son’s wedding in Jaipur. She never recovered, slowly fading away…
