I honestly did not know that there were Maheshwari cottons like this . So soft and so soothing to the touch , falling in such gentle folds . Till Anju took me to Raw Mango in Bangalore . And that this is an enterprise involving the efforts of over 450 craftspeople employed by them . Something the saree pact has done is made me so much more aware of where the sarees I wear come from and what goes into their creation. Thank you Anju and Ally all over again 🙂

So I wore this unique pink , grey and white cotton with just that little bit of silver to give it a glimmer to a very special event that I was in Calicut for .

Pratheeksha is Cancer Support Group that does a lot of work in awareness and education and has patients and their friends and families as members, each of them contributing in many engaging ways . One of the prime movers here is Shajahan, Friends of Max city chapter leader who overcame all his challenges and concerns after his own diagnose and made it his mission to put Pratheeksha on the right track . It is that great effort of his that we were acknowledging and honouring as part of our Maximize Life Campaign .

The pictures tell you how it went . I however must also share Shajahan’s love story with you all, my dear Saree Pacters .

Shajahan would see this lovely girl, also a patient, at his doctor’s clinic, every time he would go for his follow up . He was smitten . The girl was so beautiful . He spoke of his feelings to the doctor who said, Yes of course he could marry but the girl’s family should know of your diagnosis too .

Then came the task of meeting the father who took one look at him and said Not until you have a job young lad ! Now Shajahan’s job in the Gulf he had to let go after being diagnosed with the Leukemia…(like many other young men from Kerala ) and he had not found anything as yet back home . I was called upon to advocate on his behalf and I even met the girl and her father at a patient group meeting . Eventually , it all worked out well , Shajahan found his calling in Pratheeksha and impressed the father and got the girl’s hand in marriage . No prizes for guessing her name . Yes . You’d better believe me . Mumtaz! And it was their anniversary on the day of the event . On Max’s birth date .

Meet Sajeevan, another achiever who has Maximized his life and who features in my saree story today . All six feet four of him . And his Autorickshaw. I have long wondered how he fits into it. And today we did a live demo.

Yes another Auto story and all the more special because it belongs to Auto Sajeevan as we all call him . The Auto he drives all over the city ferrying school kids to and from home . Not one day does he miss his duty no matter what ; be it a hospital visit or anything else . So here I am trying to convince Sajeevan that even in a saree I can drive the Auto and he can be my passenger.

Another reason why we all love Sajeevan is because he always invites us to his home by the sea where his Mother and wife make the most delicious Meen Curry with the day’s freshly caught fish . Imagine sitting by the sea and having the curry served on a steaming bed of Kappa…bliss !

The day ends with all of us relaxed and stretching our tired legs on the sand , planning our next support group meeting .
