Its Navratri time and I have always admired the pristine white and red sarees draped by my Bengali friends with such panache. Today’s color is white and I am still waiting to find that perfect white and red saree outside of Kolkatta, and not through online shopping!

So meanwhile I picked this for the day – an off white silk with a delicate gold print and a broad maroon, gold and orange border. The highlight of this saree is the border, and of course the pallu, a dressy maroon and gold, with very intricate jari work on it. I bought this saree from Kolkatta several years back, on the urging of my cousin who had taken me shopping.

I first wore this saree for our house warming about 14 years back. Ever since, I have been consciously reaching out for this saree whenever there is something auspicious coming up; like a good luck charm for new beginnings 🙂
