A very unusual and beautiful colour combination and a soft , slithery silk . Not the kind of Saree I would have thought I would buy or wear but by I did and wear I did too ..a bit of retail therapy I did with Anju when I was in Bangalore a couple of weeks ago. The batik is brilliant , on the body using these shades of muddied purple on the pearly grey and then the other half of the Saree with the snowflake batik print . Anju knows what it’s called .
Day 3 of #RisingSun2015 and long and productive .
Walked into the breakfast room of the Conference hotel to be greeted by the morning sunshine and the equally glowing ,warm and bright smile on the face of Sohag our patient advocate from Bangladesh. He jumped up to make room for me and said , Amma …fantastic Saree and you look beautiful . What more can anyone want. Sohag is very special to me . We met over 14 years ago virtually , when he was diagnosed with Leukaemia and came onto the programme. We were in regular touch and then somehow a gap of a few years because of an hacked email and then , when I began working trying to set up groups in the region I managed to track him down and finally , after ten years actually met the fine young man at our conference in Beijing three years ago. Face to face for the first time . After a decade. It was like we’ve known each other for ever . Today , Sohag, in these couple of years , along with help from Moshaddek ,another survivor like him has worked hard to beat stigma and other myths and misconceptions that surround a diagnosis of cancer and has set up a Support Group that reaches out to patients and caregivers and conducts periodic meetings . I am so proud of him and the activities he organises for his group . This being besides the devoted husband and father . And completed his doctorate and continuing his hard and demanding work in the agriculture development sector in the rural areas .
We were joined in that sweet moment by Professor Kayani and Dr Upadhya , my other South Asia patient advocates from Pakistan and Nepal respectively . Sudha ( Pact Photographer ) my colleague and I work very closely with these wonderful men who bring so much to their work with their fellow patients.
I am so proud to present them to my Saree Pacters
