This breezy yellow chiffon is one of the many occupying the trunk filled to the brim with sarees, gifted by my mother-in-law at the time of my wedding. I am usually not a yellow kind of person, but this lovely lemon colour, the pale pink flowers and the breezy light chiffon that made me feel like a Yash Chopra heroine were deciding factors making me love it. The matching blouse was yellow with pink piping making the effect very concentrated, so I decided to dilute the yellow a bit by wearing the opposite colour- royal blue! Paired it with a plain blue blouse of another Muga Silk saree, added matching tinkling “Kaanch ki choodiyan ” and oodles of sindoor and I was ready for my Sunday brunch as the newly-wed from UP meeting friends!
This saree, like many others, reminds me of the second mother I have in my amma. She loves me like the daughter she never had. And she has so mindful to incorporate a mix of all kinds of sarees in the trunk, keeping in mind my choices and the many formal and casual occasions I will attend, and not fill it up only with Kanjeevarams as many Iyer mothers-in-law are prone to do.
I am greatly touched by the love and attention she showers on me, and hope that I can reciprocate with equal intensity. I always think of her when I look at this saree. Thank you, amma! 🙂
