Madurai cottons are popular sarees for all saree wearers. The Chungidi saree is one in which block printing is combined with tie and dye methods. Geometric prints called Kolam and Rangoli are the classic designs used to decorate these sarees.
Madurai Sungudi sarees are the other, popular type of Madurai cotton saree, distinguished by the use of block printing. Block printing is a traditional method of decorating a fabric, in which carved blocks of wood are dipped into different colors and pressed on the cloth to create a motif design or a continuous pattern.
And almost every Madurai cotton will have a zari border. Small or big.
Saree #72 ‪#‎100sareepact‬. My Rangoli saree.
Wore it to a lunch with Ranjana & Shubha Maudgal. Friends that are family.
In the frame, on the mantle, in the photo, are the two people we spoke about right through lunch. Anand Aunty and Uncle were the most romantic couple I have known. Married for 62 years, they adored each other. Uncle would look after Aunty in such an endearing manner. And Aunty could judge Uncle’s mood by the way he walked in through the door.
Uncle passed on a few years back, and, sadly, aunty followed him a month ago. I’d like to think that they look down on their daughter, Ranjana, with love.
Thank you, Ranjana, for my priceless gift today.
