7th August – our first ever National Handloom Day . My saree for today is this timeless, simple and classic black , read and white Sambhalpuri Ikkat. My mother Lalitha Ramakrishnan brought one each for me and my sister years ago when we were all together one time when they both visited Bombay ( cannot resist adding a picture of the three of us taken a couple of years ago in Madras). This one is borrowed from my sister Raji Muthukrishnan who is also in Seattle these days visiting her son and family. I am presenting to my Board today , my Regional Report, and not wearing a saree for this important meeting is out of the question na?
I would also like to take a pledge today that if / when I buy any more sarees , I will make sure they are Handloom and bought from where the proceeds go directly to the weaver. I will really try hard to do this.
