YAY.. Happy to join in.. I’ve been following the posts for long. Had the doubts whether I could make it. But the enthu. of all the pacters here made me to join. Few years back, disposed most of my sarees to my mom and mom in law thinking that I am not going to wear them all often. But now, have to get it back whenever I go to their places – b’lore and chennai.. 🙂 Thanks to Anju and Ally for this idea not only to revive our tradition but also made a space to share our precious stories and emotions knitted with each saree..
About the saree I’m wearing, its an Indigo dyed dabu print (mud resistant print) Maheshwari saree. Recently I came to know to abt the rich handlooms of India and the weaving techniques of each state. Truly we have to be proud of this and make every effort to protect the weavers and their work. As you all know, Maheshwari fabric is from Madhya pradesh. The fabric is printed with the dabu paste (made of mud and other ingredients) using blocks and the saw dust is sprinkled on the fabric. After drying, it is dipped in the indigo dye cold solution. This will give the fabric a blue background with white dabu prints on it, just like a starry indigo sky..:-)
