These pictures were taken last night but what I’m going to write happened more than a decade ago!?
Nirvana, is a cozy Indian restaurant at the Ritz Carlton, Bahrain. As I had already booked a table for three, in I walked with husband & son one special night.
” Good evening Sir, Madaaam “, a cute Philippina welcomed us.
” Your table booking is in the name of, Sir?”, she asked.
“Mr. Srinivas “, replied husband.
“Give me a minute, Sir.” So saying she looked through the reservation book.
After running her index finger from the top of the page to the bottom, she looked at us & said, ” “Sorry Sir, we don’t have any booking by that name.”
As I had done the booking I said, ” I did the booking this morning in the name of Mr. Srinivas.”
“Sorry Madaaam, it’s not here in the book.”
“Please check once again,” I said.
Son, a school going boy then said, ” Maaa, where shall we go now, I’m hungry.”
Before I could answer him, the Phillipina said, ” There is one table for three booked in the name of Mr. Greenwash.”
Greenwash, Srinivas… Greenwash, Srinivas!!
I got it!
At once I said, ” Yes, yes, it is Greenwash, I mean Srinivas. You have heard it wrong. It’s ok.”
The loudest laugh came from our darling son, ” “Daaad, she said Greenwash!”
Shhhh — I said .
“Extremely sorry Madaaam, it was a mistake & she ushered us in with the most obliging body language!
From then on, whenever I book a table, I spell out the name so that we don’t encounter any such funny moments?
Coming back to last night’s dinner, the chef had cooked something special for us, veg cutlets, dhal makhni, freshly baked strawberry flavoured macrons with cream & strawberries!
Wishing us on our Anniversary with a rose, when the candle lit plate was brought to our table, the ever smiling musician strumming his sitar played, “So saal pehele, mujhe thumse pyaar tha…, followed by many golden oldies”
Yet an other memorable fine dining experience!
