When we visited Andhra, I made it point to visit some local saree shops for Venkatagiri saree. I was not looking for any Venkatagiri saree, I was looking for a particular saree in a particular color. I went up and down a few stores, not finding the type of saree that I had in mind.
Many years ago my aunt gave me a very beautiful Venkatagiri saree in blood red color to wear, it was really very simple and elegant.
It had very tiny zari bindi type buttas all over the saree, shining like tiny stars, and it had a very thin zari border, twinkling like fairy lights. Seeing how much I loved that saree, my aunt gave away that
saree to me. I was so happy, and I used to wear it very often.
Then over the years it tore and I could never use it.
From that time I was determined to get another saree like that.
Now that I was in Hyderabad, I was sure I would find that kind of saree, but alas, as luck would have it, I was not successful in getting that kind of saree.
However, I did find something close to it, in a similar red color, with tiny checks in zari and similar tiny (not as tiny as the original one)zari border. So, that is the story of this saree. I am very happy with the saree and like it very much, yet I am still on the look out for my aunt’s saree, maybe one day I would find it, so the search is on….
