The Golden Bee Color is very popular in South. It usually comes with a contrast border, either in Deep Voilet, black , chocolate brown and so on.
In Iyengar families it is a custom to give a grand saree to the girl during the enagaement cermony by the boy’s parents. The engagement cermony is performed by the girl’s side.
So, here I was all dressed and going through the cermony, but I was also worried about the saree which would be presented to me by the groom’s side. Suppose it was a lousy color, or too grand, too heavy, maybe I may not have the blouse to match it, etc. etc.
Those days it would never strike them to take the girl along with them and let her select the saree herself.
Anyway, even if they done that, it would have hardly made much of difference, for there was hardly anytime between the day I met the boy and the day we decided we liked each other. It all happened within 2 days.
The time to open the gift from them came, and I finally saw the saree: it was the most beautiful color, and I happened to have the matching blouse to wear with it!
As I wore the saree and came out, everybody said I looked like a real princess, the color suited my dusky complexion, and the main thing was I was very happy. From the corner of my eyes I saw, that my husband could hardly take his eyes off me.
I have worn this saree many times, and always felt very comfortable in it. It is now 35 years, and it is still in a very good condition.
This saree was bought from Radha Silk Emporium Mylapore Chennai. This shop has been there for many years, and their Kanchipuram silk sarees were supposed to be of very good quality.
Anyway, I got to know from my husband , that it was he who chose this saree from the various options that was shown to them: good selection I must say!
To this day, I trust his selections, in many things.
