This is a lovely Kanchipuram saree in Gold bought by my dear father.
It was a house warming gift from him. His wish was to buy a bright yellow saree for the occasion. My father is a bit stingy, he bargained and bought this saree somewhere in Mylapore (Madras), and was pretty pleased that he could buy it at a good bargain price. He did not notice, that the saree had shop soiled mark, that was why they were willing to give it at a little lower price.
However, I love this saree very much, and I truly admire his good intentions , he maybe stingy, but he is good man.
The shop soiled marks went away after a wash. One wash with Surf, had that “Doonthe Raha Jahouge” effect.
His idea was to buy some thing in yellow as it is supposed to be a very auspicious color.
I also appreciate his choice of the color and the saree is very good for the price he paid. It is very light, at the same time, it doesn’t get the crumpled look, like some of the light weight silk sarees.
It has such a golden glow with self jari border and it also drapes beautifully.
I think of him all the time, these days, all the more. He is 94 years old.
God bless Him!
