Buying a saree is almost as exciting as wearing one. There is a multitude of designs and styles one can choose from. However, living in the United States one can find it quite difficult to find an affordable saree. It dawned on me one day that I could just make one on my own and I did just that. I bought 6 yards of fabric, beads, and fabric paint. I’m a Bangladeshi girl who can not sew, but I was determined to make it work and decided to use a glue gun. Eventually I do plan to learn how to sew.

The fabric was 58 inches wide, which is much too wide because the standard saree is only 44 inched wide. After measuring and cutting the fabric to the proper dimensions, it was time to bedazzle and embellish the saree. I beaded the saree and choli with plastic rhinestones. Then I painted on a floral design. All the effort was well worth it and gave me a greater appreciation for saree designers.
