This saree is from one of India’s most famous markets. ..Chandni Chowk in Dilli…on one of my umpteenth visits to Delhi I finally mustered the courage to explore this densely populated market which hitherto had remained unexplored because nobody in the family wanted to accompany me but hubby dear had no other option but to relent to my wishes.
Chandni Chowk literally means Moonlight Square and it was designed and established by Queen Jahanara. It was once the grandest of markets. Even though the market appears choked and congested …it has its own charm and character. The narrow lanes have shops selling everything from silver jewellery to jalebis…mouthwatering parathas in the world famous parathe wali gali…to rabri falooda…and of course it has an entire Nai Sadak for buying exquisite bridal wear saris and lehangas.
Coming to the saree. ..it is the lightest shade of pink with heavy silver embellishments…all over…I had a cousin’s wedding coming up and had picked it up for the occasion. The work makes this saree quite heavy and this is only its third outing for a wedding attended last night.
