Done with the first five for the year on this 100sareepact thing. Yep, I am a little behind schedule (ok maybe a lot). Maybe I’ll catch up maybe I wont. Anyways, here are few tid bits about the sarees I have worn so far.

1. The first one I wore this year was a taupe crepe saree embellished with sequins and some embroidery. This was a super impulsive buy that had no occasions or reasons! And infact I actually share this saree with my only sister so that we did not feel too guilty about blowing up so much on this one for no reason.

2. The second saree was a bright red, handwoven “kaithari” cotton saree from my aunts summer collection (she runs a boutique in trichur). It was special in that they used this picture in their saree catalogue! 🙂 Kaithari is a special weaving technique native to Kerala used extensively to make the traditional “mundu”.

3. The 3rd one is a soft uppada sillk bought from one of my favourite stores Shilpi in Chennai. I like that its a perfect blend of the traditional “katte” meaning checks but only in parts of the saree which gives it a nice modern take on older check versions. The parrot green adds to the edge i think!

4. The fourth one is a hand printed cotton saree (that was designed by a family friend) with a pune material blouse. I wore this in the middle of May for my grandmothers 90th birthday. The 5th one is actually my sisters saree (another check pattern) that I wore to a friend’s wedding in Erode. I love how the checks are not just a plain pink and black combo but has shades of grey to it too.

So there, 5 done, 95 to go.
