5/100 ‪#‎100sareepact‬ This ensemble stands for women power.
-The light as air and bright as Sun saree is from a weaver’s group in East Godavari that is guided by Chitrika India. Vijaya is the woman behind this NGO. The enthusiasm with which Vijaya guides this organization won me over completely, and I signed up immediately to reach out to them. Chitrika promotes artisan owned and managed business enterprise. With a little push and small adjustments, this group had come up with fine count cotton sarees that are in bright hues fit for any time of the day.
-The blouse is made by lambadi women from Yellamma thanda, a craft cluster from Telangana. Lakshmi is the tireless woman behind these finely crafted blouses that are a regular presence in many craft council exhibitions across the country.
-The neckpiece is from Nomads, an enterprise of Sabala India, a voluntary organization in Bijapur, Karnataka. Sabala works with widows, economically backward women, physically challenged girls and women. They are taught skills that translate into productive activities and generate income. The woman behind every sabala of this organization is Mallamma Yalawar. She is highly recognized for her work, yet easily approachable.
All three women embody the same qualities that are driving them and the organizations they are dedicated to. Above all, they are all mothers. Happy mother’s day.
