When we decided to get married, my husband was insistent that it had to be a simple wedding. So simple that we needed to convince him that it required the presence of at least a priest. He had his reasons that we all respected so I picked having a marriage over a wedding. He wouldn’t let anyone make any purchases, but my sister in law, then heavily pregnant wouldn’t give up. So, a day before the wedding she opened her mom’s cupboards hoping to find something good enough to give me. And, there it was, an unworn double colour pure silk saree with a grand border. It belonged to my mother in law, bought 10 years back before she died. She never got around to wearing it. And, just like that I got my wedding gift and mother-in-law’s blessing. Today was my nephew’s thread ceremony and a perfect day to bring out this saree.
