4/100. It was an evening in late April 8 years ago. I had finally got an answer to why, suddenly, I couldn’t stand the smell of coffee. An answer that was unexpected, a complete surprise, but hoped-for with all my heart. I had just learnt that I was going to have a baby.

I walked out of the doctor’s chamber and almost in a daze, walked into an exhibition that was on next door. As I walked around, still in that daze, my eyes landed on this unusual bandhej cotton in shades of espresso and latte. With its earthy colours, its intricate tie-and-dye, it somehow seemed a fitting sari to register the news I had heard.

Needless, to say, this is a saree that will always remain special. And to keep the circle of memories going, my son took this photograph today once he was all set for school and I was ready for office.
