#100sareepact Saree #17/100

This unusual combination in Pochampalli silk belonged to my mother. It has an added sentiment as this was a saree gifted to my mother by my mother in law during my wedding.
After my mother’s leg amputation in 2006, she stopped wearing sarees altogether. I wasn’t much into sarees then and we were not living in the same city as my parents. So I never displayed much interest in her sarees. She used to have a lovely collection of mostly Venkatagiri and a few Kanjeevaram sarees. Apparently she gave away some to her sisters and no idea about the rest.
When she passed away 1.5 years back, there wasn’t much left for us, but luckily lurking in the corner of her wardrobe were the 2 sarees that mattered the most to me…the first saree I gave her and this one, given by my MIL. Am sure she must have kept them safely so that they could come back to me.

I wear this saree with a lot of love and longing. It’s like the warmth of two mothers in one.
