A Saree of two stories
I heard that every Saree has a story. But mine has two!
Right from a very young age, sarees seemed to enthrall me. Leave a dupatta hanging around in the house, and the next minute it would be wrapped around me like a saree. Fashion shows or fancy dress competitions, a saree was my first pick! So you see, I always jumped at any opportunity that involved draping a saree.
The saree I’ve draped, rather my mother draped for me, is the one my father bought for me, for our house warming ceremony. When my parents came up to me and told me about how I should buy a saree for the pooja, I was already overjoyed. And the shopping was the best part. I bought this one at Smriti silks in Jayanagar. They were sweet enough to drape a few around me and believe me or not, this one looked like it was made for me. The plain white portrays simplicity, and the detailed thread work brings out the fact that until you look close enough, you don’t know how complex one’s life is. And finally, not to ignore the bright, hot pink and gold border that jumps at you, which characterizes the fact that no matter what, life is humdrum without a little brightness of colour. This saree was a perfect match for our house warming ceremony, filled with joy happiness and hope.
Now coming to my second story. My father introduced me to the #100SareePact He asked me to be a part of it too. The thing that sets this story apart is that, almost everyone uploaded their picture when they draped a saree. but I draped a saree to upload this picture. Not by chance, but by choice, to be a proud member of the #100SareePact
Everyday I would try and make time to drape a saree so I could put up a picture but was always interrupted by something or the other. So today, I decided that nothing was going to come in my way and the #100SareePact
I came home for lunch from work today and insisted that my mother drape this saree around me. My father clicked a few pictures and coincidentally all of us just loved this one.
And finally here it is, my first saree, a proud member of the #100SareePact
