My mother switched to wearing only crepes and chiffons about twenty years ago, feeling they looked more flattering on her given the added weight. She’s in poor health now and has stopped wearing saris altogether, so on my last trip insisted I take several of hers – very pointedly she handed me several crepes – including this one (yes, it’s a pure ‘creep’) and followed it up with an injunction that I had better switch to these as they ‘looked better’. Yes ma, message received, loud and clear! On another note, this sari is one of a triumvirate. My father has this pleasant habit of getting multiple saris in the same print/style – in this case, he bought rust, copper-sulphate blue and this one, all identical except for color. I already have the other two and now I feel rather like one of the siblings in Sound of Music!
