It’s our 19th anniversary today… Just back from Jaipur post a short yet royal holiday.
The pile of work and client messages in various forms staring at me and me staring right back. Just wondering if its even legal to work in this heat and humidity!
It’s a Wednesday and BAU (business as usual) so I decide to start work in a new saree. The saree is from a new project of mine in Benaras. The colour yellow reminds me how out of the 17 sarees received as gifts at shaadi time, 14 were yellow! My kind of complexion is easy to gift… Yellow… Will make her look fairer you know
As for the saree… Its a butidaar without the butis …on cotton… I strongly believe the climate is changing rapidly and the summers will be longer and more intense… Cottons and linens are the best investments… Please mark my words! There is no harm in changing slightly with the times while keeping the artform and skill alive.
So working on a range of cotton Benarasis and very light silk.
Benarasis can be divided into 4 main categories:
1.Pure Silk (Katan)
2. Organza (Kora)
3.Georgette
4.Shattir
And depending on the design process they are further categorized as
1Jangla
2.Tanchoi,
3.Vaskat
4.Cutwork
5.Tissue
6. Butidar
Enough ‘gyaan’ for the day… Happy anniversary to me and Anju Maudgal Kadam and happy saree wearing to you
