I was a young woman living a bachelorette life in Bombay, in 1994, when love came knocking at the door.
Till then, I was living a journalist’s life. Interviews, filing business stories as bureau chief.
My work led to my collection of semi formal whites, blacks and greys since I interviewed presidents and heads of companies.
Then came the decision to marry the man I loved. Cut to my mother ( Ma pattern continues in my saree stories ), visiting me to prepare for my engagement.
That moment when she opened my cupboard, turned around, and said, ” you’re getting married ! There is no Colour in your wardrobe ! ”
This is the saree I got engaged in, in a small ceremony at home. With a choli that had sequins embroidered beautifully by my eldest sister, Brijbala Sharma, who came to spend the Sydney summer with us, to see the youngest in the family step into commitment.
I embraced Colour in my life with Love and Ketav Kadam
Mohe rang de ! Happy holi everyone !
Seen here with Ally Matthan, now my partner, in this exciting saree journey that is connecting us all through our stories.
