An olive green Benares silk with a silver zari border. It belongs to my mother-in-law and was part of her trousseau! Come December this year, she celebrates her 50th wedding anniversary, so that’s how old this one is. It was bought at Ushnak Mal’s shop in Karol Bagh. Out of the 30 plus sarees she had in her wedding kitty–after all, she was marrying a ‘vilayat se aaya ladka’, a young man, who had just returned with a doctorate in Physics from Harvard University–this one remains her favourite. She tell me, “it’s not too blingy, has just the right amount of festive look, is smart and sophisticated. I’ve worn it many times and earned compliments and now it’s your turn!”
