The 100 saree pact not only brought out my sarees but also got me to notice more sarees. One such moment was while I was browsing through the posts, I found this lovely saree clad lady. And she had said that she could get that saree for whoever wanted. I quickly messaged her and over a few more saree images, found that this bright mango sunshine yellow was whistling at me. I had to order it. And when it did finally arrive, I have actually sat down, and let it fall over my cheeks o feel the beautiful softness of the saree. This is the Katan silk, and has been outsourced from Benaras. While I have a bucket list of owning a saree from each region in this country, I also like to pick up stuff that has a tradition. I googled the word Katan n promptly fell in love.
The ‘Katan’ is a thread prepared by twisting a different number of silk filaments) they are lighter in textures( lower thread count) but closely woven. Very often the satin ground weave is particularly used. …and when I wore it for a friend’s anniversary party today, it did feel like a dream. Matched it with an existing silk cotton blouse and accessories that were gifts from friends over the years. The neckpiece a glass pendant from a friend visiting Europe. The ear rings amethyst in silver. And just as I can always be..forgot to wear something on my hand..becos the watch stayed right there on my dresser 🙂
And at the party with my girl gang… Had a fun time..danced away too.. Did the thumak and the jumping Jhapaak ..because so what if it is a saree…I am supposed to enjoy…amen’t I?
