I have finally mustered enough commitment to join the ‪‎100sareepact‬. Thanks to Anju Maudgal Kadam and Ally Matthan, my sweet and pretty sarees will get much needed fresh air and sun/moonlight. This will be particularly challenging as I live in Boston and there is no place to go to…yet everywhere I go, I could easily drape a saree. It will be a mindset shift. Before I had my daughter, I use to wear sarees around the house, and now that she is 5, I think I am ready for that again. My fancy sarees might have to wait for the right occasions…lest I risk their beauty by running around them on a beach! I recently was in India and bought 7 handloom type sarees, so I will have to be courageous and wear them on a typical school pick up day…otherwise it might be a while before I get the most opportune moment. If saree upkeep was not such an issue, I would wear my typical mulberry silks around the town…but that is not the case. The saree in this photo does not have a story besides it belonging to mom. Every time I visit her, I bring her worn saree….for obvious reasons

However, the blouse does have a story. Its a shirt I have had since I was in 4th grade! I am psyched to be a kid again in this shirt and also how the colors in the blouse compliment the red of the saree. So, this is just an ordinary synthetic daily wear type saree, but I have hearts for red saree and I am on a kick to find the perfect red cotton saree with light border. I do have a white maheshwari that I hope to dye red. Keeping fingers crossed. I enjoy mixing sarees with tees and tanks…and do experiment with various styles of drapes. I have been dreaming of having a saree club here where I could meet other girls who would also show up in sarees. Until, that happens….I am excited to be seeing other girls and myself in saree via the interwebs.
