Amma bought this eons ago when I was in college. When I first wore it to work around 12 years ago, a colleague of mine asked me why I was wearing a bedsheet to work  The multi coloured checks are called “paalum-pazhamum” in Tamil – literally meaning milk and bananas, for the contrast that the saree has. This was a popular style in the 1960s apparently.

In the past, I’ve struggled to get the right shade of yellow on the border, or pink. I thought green is just so perfect, since it blends so well with the other colours in the saree.

Wearing the neck piece that I bought from the TIbetan Aunty at Safina Plaza which I absolutely love. My cousin told me it looks like a bag, but who cares
