An ode to a village

It is said that it takes a village to raise a child. Well it certainly took one to get me married off. That I am surrounded by people who love me has never been a doubtful, but how much? Well that was evident in the way everyone came together for my wedding.

Budha Budhi ki shaadi turned out to be quite an event management project for your truly. Excels were made, pictures were printed, instructions were given, pimples were nurtured, songs were shortlisted, shopping was done (till the nth day!). You get the picture; it was a desi wedding, what else can one expect?

We started the celebration with a cocktail party at Sherlocks. My brother showed that even though he is married to the Zumba Queen, Shwetambari Shetty, he could match her step by step, when the occasion demanded 🙂 The next day we had full on mehendi and sangeet. Between commenting on Salman’s good looks and Sonam’s lehenga and jewellery, my mehendi guy intricately and magically henna-ed my hands and legs.

What happened next would make Sooraj Barjatya’s movies pale in comparison. My entire friends and family community came from different parts of the world for the celebrations. Whatsapp groups were formed and dances were finalised over chai, snacks and gossip! The amazing women put up one amazing dance after another! My sweet sweet bachus put up beautiful dances, all choreographed by them. My cousins and I, after sitting on the plan to choreograph our dances for close to a month, finally put together something in last 48 hours. Nothing like last minute stress to pump up a wedding!

My sister in law and her Zumba friends set the floor on fire. Everyone sat mesmerised as they danced and danced. However the stars of the evening were by Bhai and friends ki toli. From Beyonce’s Single ladies to Sunny Deols numbers, these guys had us rolling on the floor all through their performance.

The wedding itself was all managed by family. My direct involvement was until pre-wedding day. That we got married without any glitches is thanks to them. Then again, mallu weddings are all of two minutes. Mismanaging that would have required real talent!

With the wedding all done, I am overwhelmed with all the love and support from everyone. I am also weighed down by my inability to thank each and everyone who was with me either in person or in spirit. This is just to say I will always remember how you celebrated with me. Thank you for being my village.
