#38 is one of the few sarees I have purposefully purchased for a specific occasion; in this case, a family wedding. My usual habit is to buy a good saree when I find it, where I find it. Occasions will follow when they do 🙂

So this saree goes back about 16 years, a couple years after my wedding. We had a wedding in the family. As I had a lot of saree stock from my own trousseau I had no plans to buy more, but the hubby insisted on getting me a new one – must say I felt pretty special 🙂 Thus we went saree shopping and bought this designer piece from Vama, and an expensive one it was! In shimmering shades of green silk, with a beautiful combination of zari work and sequins, before the days when sequined sarees became the rage. The zari on the border and palla is a nice design with squares, quite different from my other sarees. The palla is simply gorgeous, with the same squared design, and large jharoka style motifs, and of course sequin work.

With its sober pastel shade, smooth caress of the silk, and easy drape, this saree also makes it to my top ten favorites for wedding wear.
